Human Sculptures

Erwin Wurm

Analysis of his work

Erwin Wurm is best known for his series of One Minute Sculptures . Wurm's photographs feature images of people - many of whom are anonymous participants - posing with everyday objects such as buckets, balls and chairs in bizarre and often physically challenging positions. These poses are held for 60 seconds and result in humourous and sometimes absurd looking human still life photographs, which turn the conventional usage of ordinary items upside down.

The work of Erwin Wurm inspired me to take human sculpture shots and experiment with creating my own still life series. I photographed my dad acting as a standard lamp and coffee table.

The compositions that worked best for me were filling the frame and the mood that I wanted to communicate in my photos was humour.

The links I can see between Erwin Wurm is the creation of human sculptures using everyday objects.

What I would alter/change/do differently if I could do the work/shoot again would be take more photos, focus more and hold the camera straight without shaking it.

The camera settings I used when taking my photos were Auto and Flash Off.
