Beauty and the darkness

Vilde Rolfsen

Vilde Rolfsen is an Oslo-based fine art photographer. Her series of 'Plastic Bag Landscapes' aim to highlight the damaging environmental impact of plastic waste.

The image is of the inside of a plastic bag. I like the way it has been cropped to to fill the frame, drawing the eye to the centre of the shot. This also helps to create an abstract feel, which leaves the viewer uncertain of the subject matter.

The aperture that Rolfsen has used is a low depth of field because the camera is close to the object. She has also used light and a combination of light and dark grey tones to give the bag a translucent and delicate quality. I think the colour may also been edited to enhance the vibrancy and definition of the shot.

Rolfsen's work has inspired me to explore using  everyday, throwaway objects to create surreal and highly aesthetic images.
